America West Airlines
Originally based in Phoenix, Arizona, America West Airlines was one of the ten major United States based airlines. It maintained two major travel hubs at McCarran Internationals Airport in Las Vegas and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport in Phoenix. America West was also well known at that time for being the second largest low-fare air service provider in the United States, providing service to around 100 destinations located through the United States, Mexico, and Canada. America West also provided some air service to several European destinations by way of code sharing agreements with providers such as British Airways and Qantas.
In 2005, the American West Holdings Corporation acquired the US Airways Group, of which America West Airlines is now a part. In fact, America West now usually operates under the new US Airways brand name, as it was deemed to be a more accurate description of the airline's new area of coverage - the entire nation as opposed to only the West. Naturally, many changes took place within the airline at this time including the consolidation of gates at the major air hubs, as well as the integrations of computer systems that handled reservations and check in.
Today, America West/US Airways is famous for its impeccable attention to detail and superior customer service. As was the original objective of America West, the airline is still known for offering affordable airfare rates in comparison to the competition. In fact, US Airways reservation policy dictates that all their reservation agents sell the customer the lowest airfare available unless the customer expresses an alternative preference. The airline is also dedicated to delivering the very best in customer service and making the entire reservation, check-in, and travel process as easy and convenient for the customer as it can be. They also make sure passengers are notified of delays, cancellations, and other snags as soon as possible.
America West also integrates many of the usual amenities and perks into its overall service package. It has an airport lounge called the US Airways Club for the convenience of its customers. The US Airways Club includes 21 lounges in 16 major air hubs all over the world. The Club itself encompasses three levels. The base level covers access to US Airways Clubs only. However there is also the red carpet level which adds access to United Airlines Red Carpet Clubs with purchase of a United Airlines ticket, as well as the star alliance level that includes access to not only the US Airways Club and United Airlines Red Carpet Clubs, but also Star Alliance partner clubs.
Like many airlines, America West also featured a frequent flyer program for loyal travelers called FlightFund. When America West merged with US Airways, FlightFund was similarly merged with the US Airways Dividend Miles program. Dividend Miles also covers service to several of US Airways' partner airlines, including Hawaiian Airlines, Virgin Atlantic Airways, United Airlines, and Royal Jordanian Airlines.
Credit users in the market for an airline miles credit cards should consider one that includes American West coverage if they are looking for a nationwide service provider that offers low fares and excellent customer service.
