American Airlines

American Airlines is currently one of the largest air travel providers in the United States. It is the leading airline when it comes to passenger miles transported, as well as overall passenger fleet size. It is behind only FedEx Express in number of aircraft in operation and second to Air France-KLM in revenue from operation.

American Airlines currently manages an expansive network of flights throughout not only the whole of the United States, but also Latin America, Canada, Europe, Japan, China, India, and the Caribbean as well making it an extremely popular and trusted choice among passengers from many different areas. It is the only United States airline that features scheduled flights to a number of areas across the globe -- Anguilla, Uruguay, Grenada, Dominica, and Saint Vincent included among them.

In the United States, American Airlines has five major hubs of operation - Miami, Lambert St. Louis International Airport, Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport, Chicago, and Dallas/Fort Worth. The largest and busiest of these hubs is Dallas/Fort Worth as it handles 85% of all American's flights. It also hosts more flights traveling to more different destinations than any of the other hubs.

American Airlines is also affiliated with American Eagle Airlines which provides flight service throughout all regions of the United States, as well as Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean. The Oneworld airline alliance was something American Airlines had a part in founding as well.

In addition to the sheer expanse of American's reach when it comes to travel destinations for business or pleasure, the airline is also famous for its stellar record when it comes to environmental protection. Its wastewater plant is active when it comes to making sure water used to clean aircraft and irrigate the landscape is properly recycled. It's been estimated that this practice alone has saved over a million dollars since its establishment. American also makes use of a bar code system to keep track of hazardous waste, which has allowed for a 50% cut in overall waste since the year 2000. In 2005, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality even awarded American Airline the Governor's Award for all of its outstanding efforts in this area.

Domestic flights on American come along with many of the perks one would expect. This includes a buy-onboard meal program offering either sandwiches or snacks depending on the overall length of the flight itself. Transcontinental flights upgrade this program to a premium sandwich and chip combo. Flights to Europe, Japan, and other select destinations feature free coach meals. In first class and business class, any flight in excess of two hours in length includes complimentary meal service and alcoholic beverages. Blankets are provided free of charge to all classes and headsets are also available on demand.

American Airlines also features a couple of elite club options for frequent flyers and loyal customers. The Admirals Club is open at a number of major hubs across the country and provides membership perks for an annual fee depending on frequent flyer program level. American also features the Flagship Lounge, a lounge specifically designed to cater to premium customers flying on premium flights.

Customers should consider an airline miles credit card that includes American Airlines coverage if they are interested in supporting an environmentally conscious airline that offers an unheard of variety of options when it comes to how and where they travel.
