Skywest Airlines

Skywest Airlines is an Australian regional air travel provider currently based in Perth, Australia. It offers service to and between many of Australia's key towns within the regions of Western Australia and the Northern Territory. (Current cities of destination include but are not limited to the major Australian cities of Albany, Kalgoorie, Perth, Port Hedland, Newman, Esperance, Broome, Gerladton, and Karratha.) It also offers passengers a charter flight option to Bali, Indonesia.

When it first began service, Skywest was a charter flight service known as Carnarvon Air Taxis, eventually becoming Skywest and moving its headquarters to Perth Airport in 1980 after a number of changes to the company structure. Over the ensuing years, Skywest continued to merge with and absorb other airlines as it grew in size. These included TransWest Airlines and Stillwell Airlines, as well as all their established travel routes.

Over the years, Skywest has used many different types of aircraft, both large and small. Larger past planes have included Embraer EMB 110 Bandeirantes, Beechcraft King Air 200s, and Fairchild SA-227 Metro IIIs, while smaller varieties included Piper Aztecs and Cessna 182s. The Fokker 50 was first introduced to the SkyWest fleet in 1994. This model, along with the Fokker 100, makes up the current fleet in the air today. All the Fokker planes are used both for standard flight services, as well as charter services.

In addition to its regular scheduled flights and charters, SkyWest is also notable for its helpful assistant service to Western Australia's active mining industry. It currently has a number of contracts with a variety of different mining companies to help fuel the industry with the services offered including regular fly-in fly-out charter flights between Perth and remote or hard-to-reach sites such as Telfer, Argyle, Windarling, and The Granites minesite located in the Tanami Desert. Thanks to SkyWest, the mining industry has been able to reach a level of productivity that might have otherwise been unachieveable.

Like many other larger or international airlines, SkyWest even offers a loyalty program for special customers or frequent flyers, which was established in November of 2007 when the airline joined forces with Virgin Blue's Velocity Rewards program. As a result, SkyWest passengers can now earn loyalty points toward future flights on all SkyWest flights excluding those to and from Bali. Charter flights are also excluded from eligibility to earn free points. In addition to their partnership through Velocity Rewards, Virgin Blue and SkyWest enjoy a codesharing agreement.

SkyWest is also able to assist potential passengers with the planning of premium vacation packages to a number of destinations within Australia and including Bali. These include conveniences such as hotel accommodations, car rentals, special discounts on travel-related conveniences and more.

Consumers exploring their options in regards to airline miles credit cards should consider looking for a program that includes services offered by SkyWest Airlines if they live in Australia or frequently travel within the Australian continent - especially if they ever make use of the convenience offered by charter flights.
